Airsoft weapons can be classified according to different purposes:
- Short / long gun
- Operation: spring, motor or gas powered.
- Use: sporting, collector, gaming or reenactor weapon. (Reenactor refers to a weapon used to recreate certain historical scenarios.
Airsoft (or softair) weapons are mainly based on tactical weapons. Accordingly, more precise shooting performance can be achieved at a distance with long guns than with short guns. In addition, however, the muzzle energy is decisive. Although softair weapons with a muzzle energy of up to 7.5 joules (and the marking "F in a pentagon") are freely available from the age of 18, this strength is not suitable for use on the airsoft playing field because the impact energy is too high. A much too large safety distance to the fellow player would be necessary. In order to be able to act at all distances, it is recommended to carry two weapons with different muzzle energy on the airsoft playing field.
Airsoft weapons can be found mainly online stores such as Kotte &Zeller, but also on relevant sites such as eGun or Auctronia.
