The .38 Special caliber (metric: 9 x 29 R) is a revolver caliber widely used, especially in the USA.
It is closely related to the more powerful .357 Magnum caliber. Ammunition in .38 Special can also be fired from revolvers with the more powerful caliber, but this is not possible the other way around due to the higher gas pressure.
Other names of the caliber are 38 S&W Special and 9 × 29 mm R.
