The caliber .44 Magnum, also .44 Remington Magnum with the metric dimensions 11 x 33 R, is a very powerful caliber for handguns, mainly for revolvers. Due to its extreme shooting behavior, the cartridge is primarily suitable for sport shooting and the hunting finishing shot, less so for official and tactical shooting.
The shooting behavior of the high-performance cartridge is based on the high gas pressure. Depending on the load and manufacturer, the pressure can reach up to 2800 bar, with bullet energy around 1000 - 1800 Joules.
For comparison, the maximum gas pressure for the pistol caliber 9 mm Luger is 2300 bar and the bullet energy is 350 - 750 Joules.
