A telescopic baton is a baton or defense stick that is usually made of steel or aluminum and can be extended telescopically. Typically, the telescopic baton can also be extended by a swinging motion. The individual segments, usually three, lock into each other when extended. The handle of the telescopic baton holds the other two segments. Telescopic batons can be up to 100 cm long when extended, with the handle usually up to 30 cm.
Legally speaking, a telescopic baton is not a prohibited item (unlike steel rods), but it is considered a weapon under the Weapons Act. Carrying it in public without authorization is at least an administrative offense, and carrying it at gatherings or public events constitutes a criminal offense.
The purchase and possession are free from the age of 18.
