In the field of competitive shooting, there are many apps for documenting shooting performance. The app Blackhole was our favorite from Gunfinder - which is why we want to introduce the app to the target shooters among our users as part of a collaboration (advertisement).
With "Blackhole", the new app for target shooters, your shooting log is now also available digitally.
No matter where you are - with the Blackhole app, you can conveniently view your saved targets and calculated shooting results from anywhere. To save, a simple nickname-email address account is required. After free registration or login, you can get started right away.
How does Blackhole work?
The functionality of Blackhole is very easy: When you open the app, you can activate the target capture and select the appropriate details (target type, caliber, shots, etc.) in the lower area. The capture of the target works as soon as you allow the app access to the camera.
Photographing the target
When scanning the target, it is important that it is placed on a suitable background that has as much color contrast as possible to the colors of the target. The background should also not have any structures, as is the case with printed newspaper or wood grain. Carpets and highly glossy surfaces should also not be used. A white sheet of paper is usually sufficient for the slightly yellow standard targets. The capture of the target also works under less than optimal lighting conditions. As soon as the app recognizes the target, it automatically takes a photo of it, which it then evaluates.
Evaluation
Your shooting data will then be evaluated based on the photographed target to the tenth ring. The subsequent analysis determines further parameters, such as average hit position and dispersion circles. These provide additional insights regarding the achieved accuracy and precision beyond the number of rings. The results of individual targets can also be summarized into series and events in the digital shooting log. Your results can even be verified with the electronic signature of your shooting instructor. Accordingly, protocols and signed training certificates can also be generated from your entries, which you can save, print, and send via email or messenger as a PDF or image.
Additional features
The app has more exciting features: shooting results can be linked to individual weapons. To do this, you manually or via catalog selection enter your weapons, ammunition, and clothing through the inventory. Once you have assembled a set from this, it will be displayed within the target capture under "Select set". This allows for more targeted statements regarding precision and accuracy in relation to your equipment.
Furthermore, the app offers the possibility to exchange digitally with shooting friends. Connect through the virtual regulars' table and share your latest results. On the "tabletop", you will find the posted shooting log entries with all shooting data, parameters, and the equipment used by your friends - and vice versa. Posting your shooting results works, by the way, with the typical post symbol: through the winged envelope within the shooting log entry, you can access the preview of your post, which you can then share directly at the regulars' table or via another preferred medium.
Interesting facts
The app is free in its basic functions. This includes, among other things, scanning targets, maintaining a shooting log, equipment management, and the virtual regulars' table. For ambitious target shooters, premium features are offered on a subscription basis. These include the calculation of extended statistical parameters from the hit images, PDF export of the shooting log and training certificates, as well as ad-free usage. The premium features can be unlocked for testing by displaying short advertisement videos an unlimited number of times.
