In 1949, Walter Gehmann founded the now internationally successful and globally renowned shooting sports company. The inventiveness of the company founder and his close connection to shooting sports were the basis for the company's constant innovations. These were and are the foundation of success. To this day, Walter Gehmann was the only one who became a world champion, received the Silver Laurel, and was also an honorary member of the German Shooting Federation (DSB). Not only as a shooter and later national coach, but also as the initiator of the re-establishment of the DSB after World War II, he steadily expanded his influence in the shooting community. He knew how to combine experiences and insights with further developments. With the founding of his business, a unique series of innovations in shooting sports began, which continues uninterrupted to this day. In addition to sporting successes (world championship titles, 3 world records, European championship titles, and 24 German championships), Walter Gehmann made a name for himself as early as 1936 with a precision diopter. Many things that a rifle shooter takes for granted today can be traced back to the ideas and inventiveness of Walter Gehmann. This is evidenced by over 110 national and international patents. For example, Walter Gehmann developed and patented the famous KK Match Rifle 54 from Anschütz and the Model 66 from Mauser. The long-standing collaboration with the companies Feinwerkbau and Walther was also characteristic of Walter Gehmann's innovative influence in the sporting arms sector. The Gehmann company also did pioneering work in the field of compressed air technology with the introduction of the first modern compressed air pistol from Morini, the first modern compressed air hand pump, and other accessories that helped this weapon technology achieve breakthrough success.

After completing his university studies, the Gehmann company received active support in 1987 from the trained economist Markus Gehmann. Father and son have since been guided by the idea of innovation as the basis of their entrepreneurial actions to ensure the Gehmann company a leading market position in the future. Many newly developed products were the result of this team spirit, so the aforementioned guiding principle also significantly shaped the company concept of managing director Markus Gehmann after the death of Walter Gehmann in 2012.

Meanwhile, the third generation of the Gehmann family has been integrated into the management of the company, represented by the two granddaughters of the founder, Alina Gehmann and Sinikka Gehmann.
