The barrels, in caliber 16, are made by Sir Joseph Whitworth, one of the great Victorian engineers, very well known at that time for producing the best quality barrels, and identified by Whitworth's trademark wheat-sheaf . The barrels inside are mirror white and all mechanical parts of the shotgun are tight and works perfectly well.
In the splinter forends there is golden inlaid heraldic coat of arms showing a shield, featuring ermine patterns, a crown above it, and a banner with the French motto:
"MIEUX MOURIR QUE ME TERNIR",
which translates to "Better to die than to be dishonored."
