The caliber 7x64mm was developed in 1917 by Wilhelm Brenneke and was considered the German answer to the American counterpart - the .30-06 Springfield. Brenneke developed the 7x64 from the 8x64, which did not enjoy consistently positive feedback. The 7x64 is considered very fast and has been particularly popular in Germany since at least the 1930s.
The fact that the 7x64 is still quite widespread in Europe today is due to the circumstance that in some countries, civilian-use military cartridges such as the .308 Winchester, 7 × 57 mm, or the 8 x 57 mm are prohibited.
Another advantage of the 7 x 64 is its wide range of applications. From roe deer to chamois to wild boar and red deer, with the right loadings, all wild species occurring in our region can be successfully hunted with the 7 x 64.
