Under tracking signs, all characteristics that shot game leaves behind after the shot are understood. They are examined when the game has not died at the shot site. By evaluating the tracking signs, the shooter can conclude how and whether he hit the piece of game. Additionally, the tracking signs can help estimate how long the escape distance is.
The most important tracking signs include the drawing of the game at the shot, blood (color and consistency), cut and torn hair, bone splinters, ground wounds, so-called interventions, teeth, antler parts, and pieces of game meat. Furthermore, vocalizations of the game and the bullet impact, that is, the sound of the bullet hitting the game body, can provide information about the shot.
