In addition to passing the hunting exam, a hunting liability insurance is a basic requirement to obtain a hunting license. The hunting liability insurance must be valid for at least as long as the hunting license to be obtained. In Germany, this is either one or three years.
The hunting liability insurance must have coverage amounts as follows: for personal injury of 500,000 euros and for property damage of 50,000 euros, although significantly higher coverage amounts are recommended.
The liability for damages for hunters arises according to § 823 BGB.
The damages for which hunters can be held liable arise not only from the worst-case scenario, a misfire, but also if, for example, a high seat structure collapses or the hunter's own dog attacks or kills another animal - or causes a car accident.
