In addition to passing the hunter's exam, hunting liability insurance is a basic requirement for obtaining a hunting license. The hunting liability insurance must be valid for at least as long as the hunting license to be issued. In Germany, this is either one or three years.
The hunting liability insurance must have insured sums as follows: For personal injury in the amount of 500,000 euros and for property damage in the amount of 50,000 euros, although significantly higher sums insured are recommended.
The liability for damages for hunters arises according to § 823 BGB.
The damages for which hunters can be held liable result not only from the worst conceivable event, a missed shot, but also if, for example, a high seat collapses or one's own hunting dog attacks or kills another animal - or causes a car accident.
