Who can I sell a weapon to?
1. Checking the acquisition authorization
The seller is obliged to check whether the buyer possesses the necessary acquisition authorization. Depending on the type of weapon, different authorizations may be required.
2. Free weapons
Free weapons may be sold to persons aged 18 and over. The buyer must present a valid proof of age.
3. Weapons requiring a permit
To purchase weapons requiring a permit, such as certain firearms, a valid acquisition authorization must be presented. This includes firearms ownership cards, hunting licenses, or ammunition purchase permits, which must be presented in original form.
4. Information on acquisition authorizations
For detailed information on which acquisition authorizations specifically allow the purchase of different types of weapons, the relevant legal provisions and guidelines must be observed.
How do I check the acquisition authorization of an interested party?
The seller has the duty to verify the acquisition authorization of buyers.
You can find out which documents authorize the purchase of weapons here:
There are two ways to verify:
Original EWB
When purchasing a weapon, there is the option to check the original acquisition authorization. The buyer can present the document in person, especially if they pick up the weapon directly from the dealer, which is the safest method of verification. Alternatively, the acquisition authorization could also be sent in original form to the seller, but for security reasons, we advise against this method, as important original documents could be lost or damaged during transport. To minimize risks, we therefore recommend the personal presentation of the acquisition authorization as the best practice for the safe and verifiable purchase of weapons.
Scan of an EWB
You can also have the buyer send you a scan of the acquisition authorization. However, you must then ensure that the document is valid. For this, you should consult the issuing authority by phone. It is important that the buyer grants the authority the right to confirm the information in advance. Therefore, please ask the buyer to contact their responsible weapons authority.
Does an identity check also secure the acquisition authorization?
No, an identity check only confirms the identity of the users through an online proof, which serves to establish and certify authenticity. This process is implemented on platforms like Gunfinder to prevent the use of fake profiles and increase security. However, the identity check does not capture whether users have an acquisition authorization for weapons.
