The 8 x 68 S caliber is a German magnum cartridge and is considered a more powerful version of the 8 x 57 IS caliber. The caliber is very fast and is therefore suitable for long-distance shots, e.g. in the mountains, and for all strong cloven-hoofed game worldwide. The cartridge is said to have very high precision.
A disadvantage of the caliber is the strong recoil. In addition, the bullet does not develop its full potential when hit at close range, as the projectile penetrates the game body too quickly.
