EGun is still one of the most important online platforms for weapons, ammunition and accessories in Germany and Austria. The products are not limited to equipment for sport shooters and hunters; anglers, outdoor enthusiasts and collectors of weapons, militaria and antiques also find what they are looking for on the platform.
Since 2002, almost one million users have registered on EGun. In addition to professional dealers who primarily sell new weapons and tested, used weapons, many private players also trade on the platform. Although EGun has an excellent process to authenticate users, the sheer amount of users makes it difficult to rule out with 100% certainty that fake profiles have been created.
In the following, we would like to give a few simple tips that can serve as an aid in recognizing fake profiles and dubious offers:
Inactive profiles
If a profile has not been active for years and then, out of the blue, publishes several offers, you should be suspicious and contact the merchant personally.
Unrealistic bargains
High quality new optics for a ridiculous price? Unrealistic offers from new accounts that haven't published any other offers yet? Hands off! What sounds too good definitely has a catch, because pricing is very transparent on the gun market.
Hacked profiles
Hacked profiles occur again and again and are the most difficult to detect. An indication of this can be conspicuous bank accounts, as there are banks where it is quite easy to open an account. In that case, the bank details may have been changed after the profile was taken over.
Especially hacked profiles are the most difficult to detect and a case for the criminal police. Our recommendation: Watch out for discrepancies and if possible go to the seller yourself.
