Long guns with manual cocking have a cocking slide that allows the gun to be cocked just before firing. A manual cocking device eliminates the need for other safety devices. No safety is as safe as a decocked system. If a shot is fired and repeated, the system is immediately cocked again - another shot can be fired immediately. If no further shot is fired, the system must be decocked after the first shot is fired.
The most important repeaters with manual cocking:
Blaser R8
The Blaser R8 is one of the most popular hunting rifles among professional hunters and foresters. The straight-pull repeater with manual cocking guarantees precise shots, fastest repeating, safety and robustness. The rifle has a modular design and can therefore be customized according to the customer's individual wishes. The only points of criticism: Many plastic parts and high price of the high-performance weapon.
Blaser R93
The Blaser R93 is the predecessor model of the Blaser R8 and set new standards in terms of safety, bolt action and shooting performance back in 1993. Due to its popularity, the model was developed in parallel with the R8 until 2016. Used models of the R93 are traded from about 2000-2500 euros. Like the R8, the R93 is very robust and therefore often used by high-performance shooters and professional hunters.
Sauer 404
The Sauer 404 is Sauer's top-of-the-line model and the successor to the legendary Sauer 202. In addition to its manual cocking action, the rifle's most impressive feature is its buttery-smooth lock action, which hunters of many generations have come to appreciate so much about Sauer repeaters.
Mauser M12
The Mauser M12 does not come with a manual cocking system as standard, the rifle is equipped with a firing pin safety. However, manual cocking is offered as an option. The Mauser M12 is a rugged hunting rifle, designed for tough, deprived use in the field.
Heym SR 30
The Heym SR 30 integrates the manual cocking mechanism into the chamber stem. The rifle is cocked by pushing the chamber rod forward, to decock the rifle the chamber rod must be pulled back again. Before firing the first shot, however, cocking is a bit awkward: the pistol grip has to be released when the gun is stopped in order to operate the lever. At just under 2,300 euros MSRP, the gun is comparatively inexpensive and impresses not only with its precision but also with its excellent workmanship.
Merkel RX Helix
The Merkel RX Helix is a straight pull repeater with manual cocking designed for all hunting situations. Especially for foreign hunting, the weapon is ideal, with a few simple steps, the take-down weapon can be disassembled to briefcase size and is therefore very well suited for transport. The new price of the RX Helix, which is available in various versions, is 2,500 euros upwards.
Steyr Mannlicher SM12
The flagship of Steyr Mannlicher, the SM12 is particularly distinguished by its RESET ACTION system. The automatic reset system detects when the cocked (and thus ready to fire) rifle is no longer in the firing position because it is placed upright or laid down sideways. An LED light alerts the shooter that the gun is still cocked. If the shooter does not react to this, the weapon automatically decocks. It doesn't get any safer than this!
Steyr Mannlicher Monobloc
In the Steyr Mannlicher Monobloc, as the name implies, the barrel and system are made from one piece. In the stock, which was created in a 3D printer, there is a cavity in which the removed trigger unit can be stowed. According to Steyr Mannlicher, the Monobloc is the most precise rifle the traditional manufacturer has ever produced.
Krieghoff Semprio
The Semprio from Krieghoff offers a revolutionary in-line repeating system in which no chamber stem is moved, but rather repeating is accomplished by quickly sliding the forend forward and backward. Advantages of this innovative technology: the hands remain on the pistol grip and forearm, the target remains in the glass - faster repeating is hardly possible.
Strasser RS 14
The most impressive feature of the modular RS 14 straight-pull repeater from Strasser is the fast caliber change. With a few simple steps, the barrel and, if necessary, the magazine and bolt head can be changed with repeat accuracy even during the hunt. The process takes only a few seconds. The rifle is available in a variety of versions, allowing it to be tailored precisely to the customer's requirements. According to Strasser, the price ranges from 2,800 to 20,000 euros.
