Bowhunting is experiencing an ever-increasing interest in Germany, where it is not permitted, unlike in France, for example. However, due to the nature and range of the bow, hunters can only shoot up to a maximum of 25 meters. Therefore, it is much more difficult to get close to the game. Stalking is therefore also difficult - the closer you get to the game, the more likely it is to notice you. For this reason, most hunters carry portable stands that they attach to strong trees in the forest ("treestand") to stalk approaching game from. In order for game to approach to the shooting distance, it is essential for the hunter to be so well camouflaged that even well-eyed game cannot recognize him.
When shooting, the challenge is to hit the chamber precisely, despite less precise optical aids as with a rifle. This requires much more practice, even with modern compound bows, than with a rifle with a scope. In addition, the bow must be strung and released silently. Nevertheless, the whirring sound of the arrow and the sound of the bow relaxing can cause skittish game to jump off even after the arrow has been fired, before it reaches the target.
From an animal rights position, it is often argued that killing even with accurate shots results in painful injuries and does not kill the game immediately. Representatives of bowhunters counter that the razor-sharp arrowheads, which consist of several blades, cut very precisely and do not tear, thus hardly damaging pain receptors. Deadly hit game often jumps off to pause after a few steps and look back - without showing signs of pain. Shortly thereafter, it begins to stagger, lay down, and perish. According to bowhunters, this takes no longer with a good bow shot than with a well-taken rifle shot.
A major advantage of bowhunting as opposed to rifle hunting is the much smaller hazard area and noise emissions than hunting with a rifle. Straight one in urban areas or in districts, which border to the city could represent the bowhunt in the future also in Germany again a meaningful alternative.
Bows are not subject to the Weapons Act.
Online, the compound bows are traded on the classic platforms such as eGun or Auctronia or stores such as 4komma5.
