As a "Fangschuss", the hunter refers to the shot with which he takes down severely injured or not immediately fatally hit game. This shot is often taken at the end of a tracking or with injured game. It serves the purpose of relieving the animal from its suffering and bringing about immediate and painless death by penetrating the bullet into the brainstem.
Particularly handguns are used by hunters in Germany as a "Fangschuss" weapon, as the "Fangschuss" is usually fired from close range.
Popular calibers for the "Fangschuss" are, for example, .22 lfB, because it is sufficiently strong to kill immediately in the case of predatory animals, while not devaluing the pelt. For the "Fangschuss" on hoofed game (especially hard-to-hit boars), as strong calibers as possible are recommended, such as .38 Special, .357 Magnum, or .44 Magnum
