It is probably one of the most exciting times of the year for hunters - the driven hunt season. Drivers, hunting assistants and hounds are all working towards that one moment when a piece of game takes over from the shooter waiting in his stand, who can apply a clean shot and bring the game down in a manner befitting the hunter.
However, as with almost every type of hunting, the hunter is often faced with the question of which is the most suitable tool for driven hunts. Which weapon is best suited for successful driven hunts? How much does such a weapon cost? Which optics should be mounted on such a driven hunt weapon? What caliber is recommended for a driven hunt? Do I always have to carry a bolt action rifle on a driven hunt?
Questions upon questions arise for the hunter, and young hunters in particular regularly search the Internet for tips on how to find the perfect driven hunt rifle.
The majority of hunters today still rely on the classic hunting rifle - the bolt action - just as they do for raised hide hunting. But self-loading rifles, so-called "semi-automatic rifles", are becoming increasingly popular, especially during the driven hunt season. With these rifles, the hunter/shooter is able to fire an even faster sequence of well-aimed individual shots, since a repeating action is not necessary with a self-loading rifle.
Many "old" hunters are not particularly well-disposed towards semi-automatics, as they consider them to be a modern phenomenon that has no place in hunting. Also, many are bothered by the appearance of most semi-autos, as they look more like rifles for tactical, military use.
So, as with so many things in hunting, it is once again a matter of taste. However, it can be stated that self-loading rifles also provide technical arguments for use - especially on driven hunts.
In the following, we present seven self-loading rifles that are suitable for use on a driven hunt.
Haenel SLB 2000+
Haenel Jaeger SLB - a high quality self-loading rifle for hunting use. The hunting rifle is designed as a self-cleaning gas pressure loader. Despite fast firing sequences, the weapon is highly safe: the two-position safety acts on the hammer and trigger. The weapon is suitable for both right-handed and left-handed shooters.
Sauer 303
The S 303 is a self-loading rifle made by J. P. Sauer & Sohn GmbH, a company that has traditionally stood for high quality in gun manufacturing since 1751. Sauer promotes the weapon especially for use in driven hunts.
Merkel SR1
With the SR1, Merkel offers a primarily functional self-loading rifle that is predestined for movement hunting and features a self-cleaning gas-operated self-loading system. This should allow the reliable use of a large amount of ammunition in a short time with the SR1.
SigSauer SIG 716
Familiar handling, unfamiliar firepower: SIG SAUER has taken the proven features of the SIG516 and developed them into a powerful AR-based rifle.
Benelli Argo
ARGO - the abbreviation stands for Auto Regulated Gas Operated and is derived from the Benelli M4 semi-automatic shotgun designed for military use, which is characterized by its simple design with few parts.
Browning BAR II
The BAR- Browning Automatic Rifle is an American self-loading rifle available in several variations. The latest model has an innovative insert magazine, which allows quick magazine changes for driven hunts.
Savage Arms MSR-10 Hunter
The Savage Arms MSR-10 Hunter is a modern, tactical-looking semi-automatic rifle for hunting, visually strongly reminiscent of the AR-10. MSR stands for Modern Savage Rifle.
The 2021 driven hunt season is again under the heavy portent of two pandemics affecting the hunting community - the so-called Corona Pandemic and the spread of African Swine Fever. Gunfinder informs you about everything that is important for the 2021 driven hunt season.
