The driven hunt is a form of social hunting, usually practiced in the forest. Drivers – with or without dogs – walk through the area to be hunted to move the game. The goal is for the game to pass by the so-called shooting stands (the place where a shooter stands) at a moderate pace, allowing for a clean shot to be taken.
Shooters and drivers usually wear special signal clothing during driven hunts for safety reasons.
The shooting distance in driven hunts is usually no more than 100 meters. Since shots often have to be taken while moving and without support on the changing game, calibers such as 8 x 57 IS and .308 Win are particularly recommended for novice hunters.
Among some experienced hunters, calibers suitable for particularly hard-to-kill game, such as .300 Win Mag, are also very popular, although they are relatively difficult to shoot.
