In airsoft or softair games, various types of weapons are used, similar to "real firearms" - typically assault rifles, sniper rifles, and handguns, depending on the purpose.
Airsoft Guns by Categories
Assault Rifles
The most popular category among airsoft guns is the assault rifles. They are suitable for shooting at medium to long distances, compact in design, and usually designed as semi-automatics. This results in a high rate of fire - multiple opposing players can be effectively covered with BBs using airsoft assault rifles. Airsoft assault rifles typically fire BBs with an energy of about 1.5 Joules, allowing for shooting distances of 70-100 m thanks to the hop-up system.
Sniper Rifles
Sniper rifles are less commonly found on the field compared to assault rifles. They have a muzzle energy of up to 3 Joules and can reliably hit targets at distances over 100 m. However, these weapons have some disadvantages compared to assault rifles. Firstly, they are designed as single-shot weapons, meaning that after each shot, a new BB must be manually loaded into the chamber. This reduces the rate of fire. Additionally, airsoft sniper rifles are usually equipped with a longer barrel and a bipod. As a result, these weapons can be somewhat unwieldy, and shots taken while standing are less precise than with assault rifles - the shooter typically needs to lie down for a precise shot. Another important limitation arises from the high muzzle energy. Because the BBs are fired with such strong energy, a minimum distance is required. Usually, opposing players can only be engaged with a sniper rifle from a distance of about 50 m.
Pistols
Pistols are especially popular as backup weapons. A low muzzle energy of up to one Joule makes airsoft pistols, like their real counterparts, suitable for shooting at short distances. Due to their compact size, pistols are very maneuverable - they can be quickly brought to aim. However, they are too inaccurate for longer distances to be considered primary weapons. To increase the precision of the weapons, it is advisable to mount a reflex sight (or "red dot"). While with open sights, three points must be aligned (rear sight, front sight, and target), which is additionally difficult because all points are at different distances from the eye, a red dot sight projects a red dot onto the target in the lens - thanks to the concave cut, it remains accurate even if the weapon is not held perfectly straight - missing the target is impossible.
