Hunting with thermal imaging technology
In many German states, the use of thermal imaging technology is now permitted when hunting wild boar. But be careful: not all thermal imaging technology is the same.
So far, hunters are allowed to use thermal imaging devices and cameras for reconnaissance purposes. Likewise, so-called attachment devices may now be used in most federal states.
It is important, however, to carefully examine the legal situation before mounting and to clarify whether or not an attachment may be mounted on a telescopic sight / firearm in the respective federal state. Furthermore, it is decisive whether and what specifications there are in the form of devices, the use of brighteners, the technology in general and conditions under which the devices may be mounted to be observed.
General ban on thermal imaging / night vision targeting technology
Unlike night vision and thermal imaging sights, in Germany, possession alone of a night vision or thermal imaging scope is punishable by law. The devices have a reticle and are constructed like a normal rifle scope. Technically, the devices are available as thermal imaging or night vision technology. Many German manufacturers also produce such devices. However, these are only sold abroad.
Hunting abroad with thermal imaging riflescope technology
In (European) foreign countries, however, hunting with thermal imaging target technology is sometimes permitted. Here, too, it is essential to find out about the relevant legal conditions beforehand.
