Hunting with thermal imaging technology
In many German federal states, the use of thermal imaging technology for hunting wild boar is now permitted. But caution: thermal imaging technology is not the same as thermal imaging technology.
Hunters are currently allowed to use thermal imaging devices and cameras for reconnaissance purposes. Likewise, so-called attachments can now be used in most federal states.
However, it is important to thoroughly examine the legal situation before mounting and to clarify whether an attachment can be mounted on a riflescope / firearm in the respective federal state or not. Furthermore, it is crucial to consider whether and what requirements exist in terms of devices, the use of illuminators, the technology in general, and the conditions under which the devices may be mounted.
General ban on thermal imaging scope / night vision scope technology
Unlike night and thermal imaging attachments, in Germany, the mere possession of a night vision or thermal imaging riflescope is already punishable. These devices have a reticle and are constructed like a normal riflescope. Technically, the devices are available as thermal imaging or night vision technology. Many German manufacturers also produce such devices. However, these are only sold abroad.
Hunting abroad with thermal imaging scope technology
In (European) foreign countries, hunting with thermal imaging scope technology is sometimes permitted. Here too, one should definitely inform themselves about the respective legal framework conditions beforehand.
