Manufacturer for

PUMA is a manufacturer of high-quality hunting, sports, and leisure knives from the world-renowned city of Solingen, known for its blade forges. PUMA knives stand for the highest quality, sharpness, and durability.

The history of PUMA dates back to 1769 when Johann Lauterjung registered his trademark in the knife maker's roll. However, the manufacturer's tradition goes even further back to a time when numerous grinding shops, known as Kotten, stood along the Wupper River. Here, blades were ground on natural sandstone, powered by water.

As late as the early 19th century, there were exactly 93 grinding Kotten and six hammer forges on the banks of the Wupper. It was the invention of the steam engine that marked a turning point in blade processing. One was no longer dependent on water power.

One of the early Kotten belonged to the Lauterjungs. Historical documents about a legal dispute of the Lauterjung family "against the fishery at the castle" testify to this. The Lauterjungs won the case against the fisher heirs in 1691 and were allowed to use the lowest value of the Wupper in Balkhausen from then on. The Balkhauser Kotten, now a living museum, still stands at the presumed site.
