Data, facts & information

As in almost all other areas, the usual statement applies to air guns: it depends! Specifically on factors such as manufacturer, material, short or long gun, and much more. Very inexpensive air rifles can be purchased for around €50, while there are hardly any limits to the prices of these weapons. On the higher end, air rifles can also be worth €1000 or even more. However, what the weapon ultimately costs is not the decisive factor. It is important that the weapon is of good quality, fulfills its purpose fully, and is just right for the person using it. Then it is also acceptable to spend a little more money on it.

With an air gun, such as a freely available air rifle, one can shoot accurately at a distance of up to 25 meters. Stronger models, for which a firearms ownership card is required if they have a so-called export spring, can reach a distance of about 80 meters. However, in sporting competitions, shooting is only done at a distance of 10 meters, either freehand or supported.

If you want to acquire, own, or carry a firearm, a corresponding firearms permit is required. The acquisition and possession of blank-firing, irritant, and signal weapons are permit-free for individuals who have reached the age of 18. However, a small firearms license is required to carry these weapons. Air pressure weapons, spring-powered weapons, and CO2 weapons are also available from the age of 18.
