In recent years, SRS weapons and the small firearms license have seen a significant increase in popularity, largely influenced by the changing sense of security within the population. However, among sport shooters and gun owners, the question often remains how these weapons and the corresponding ammunition should be stored correctly to comply with legal requirements and ensure safety.
Specific storage rules apply to air, spring-operated, or CO2 weapons that are marked with an F sign, as well as to blank-firing, gas, and signal weapons that bear a PTB mark. These categories of weapons, as well as bladed and thrusting weapons, must be secured in such a way that they cannot be stolen or misused by unauthorized persons. The legal requirements stipulate that storing these weapons in a locked container is sufficient to meet this obligation.
For optimal safety, we strongly recommend investing in a lockable gun cabinet. Such a cabinet not only provides adequate protection against theft and unauthorized access but also helps maintain order and overview of your weapons and equipment.
Regarding ammunition storage, the requirements are somewhat stricter. Ammunition must generally be stored locked and separately from the weapons to minimize risks. It is important to note that projectiles for air, CO2, or spring-operated weapons are not considered ammunition under the Weapons Act, which simplifies the storage guidelines for this specific type of projectile. Nevertheless, the storage of these projectiles should be done with the same care to ensure safety and compliance with applicable laws at all times.
As a dedicated sport shooter, it is essential to continuously inform yourself about the current legal regulations and ensure that all weapons and ammunition are stored according to the regulations. This not only protects you and your surroundings but also ensures that you can pursue your hobby without legal complications. Remember that the responsibility for safe storage lies with you, and adequate storage is the key to a safe and responsible handling of your shooting sports equipment.
