Anyone who sells or buys weapons must have an overview of which documents entitle them to buy and sell in the first place. This is not entirely clear, for example, hunters must always be in possession of a hunting license, but not necessarily in possession of a gun ownership card, which they can only apply for if they can prove that they have a gun cabinet and a gun. Who gets which weapon possession card is also not always quite clear, although it is basically true that hunters get a green, sport shooters a yellow and collectors a red weapon possession card, but there are also cases where sport shooters are issued a green weapon possession card. In the following a short overview, to which acquisition of hunters, sport shooters and collectors which acquisition authorization must be presented.

Authorizations
The weapon possession cards entitle to the possession of the weapons registered in it, however, not to the carrying in the public. Only those who hold a weapons license may carry weapons in public.
According to § 13 (6) of the Weapons Act, hunters are allowed to carry weapons in the hunting ground and on the shooting range, and also in connection with these activities not ready to fire, for example on the way from home to the hunting ground.
Purchase authorizations for online purchases
When purchasing weapons and ammunition, the respective acquisition authorization must be presented.
Online, the presentation is not clearly regulated. One possibility is to send the acquisition authorization or an officially certified copy by mail to the respective seller. However, this is associated with increased effort, because the document must also be returned.
Some dealers also accept a scan, but there is a risk that scans can be faked. One method that we recommend, and which involves little effort, is to check the authenticity of the documents with the issuing authority. To do this, however, the owner must grant the authority the right to confirm the validity of the document to third parties.
The largest online platform for weapons in the German-speaking world E-Gun also recommends requesting the original of an acquisition authorization.
