Slugs are bullets which, as the name suggests, are fired from shotguns. In the classic version, they are lead cylinder bullets with longitudinal grooves, in which there is a felt plug between the propellant charge and the bullet, which seals the propellant charge against the bullet.
The more modern versions are mounted in a plastic sabot that seals the bullet in the barrel from the propellant charge, allowing full delivery of the propellant energy to the bullet.
Shotgun slugs are used for hunting at distances of 30 to 50 m, with a scattering circle of about 10 cm. It is permitted to use them in Germany on all cloven-hoofed game.
