The box trap is a type of trap hunting used in the context of live trapping, meaning that the trap catches the game alive and unharmed. Usually, elongated boxes made of wood or wire are used, whose doors/flaps close suddenly when the game triggers the corresponding mechanism inside the trap. Depending on the design of the trap, there are various operating mechanisms.

Box traps are often set up at forced crossings, for example at stream crossings, etc.

One of the most commonly used types of box traps in Germany is the tilting board trap.
