Basics of Transporting Weapons

Hello, dear airsoft friends! In this article, we clarify how you can transport your airsoft weapon safely and legally according to the current legal situation as of December 2022. We will refrain from sales talks and instead focus on what is really important: the facts.

First, let's look at the legal regulations. Relevant here are the Weapons Act (WaffG) Annex 1 (to § 1 Abs. 4) and the General Administrative Regulation on the Weapons Act (WaffVwV). These documents define what is meant by "handling weapons" – this includes the acquisition, possession, carrying, and also the transporting of your airsoft weapon.

What does carrying mean?

Carrying a weapon means that you exercise actual control over the weapon outside your own four walls or a secured area, such as an airsoft field. To carry in public, you need a permit according to §10 Abs. 4 WaffG, the so-called weapon license. But beware: The regulations for airsoft weapons differ from those for firearms or air guns.

Transporting your airsoft

When it comes to transport, you should keep a few things in mind to ensure that you do everything correctly:

  1. Safety first: Avoid leaving the airsoft weapon unsecured in the car, such as in an unlocked glove compartment or in the door pocket.
  2. Proper packaging: Always transport your airsoft in a gun bag, gun case, or another suitable packaging. It is important that the transport container is securely closed, for example with a lock or a cable tie.
  3. Separate storage: Batteries and loaded magazines should be stored separately from the weapon, ideally in a separate compartment of your gun bag.
  4. Transparency during checks: Proactively inform during a police check that you have a properly packaged airsoft weapon in the vehicle.

Special Notes

Some special points to consider are, for example, the regulation that carrying a holstered weapon in your own home or business does not count as "carrying" in the legal sense. Additionally, it is important not to paint over the F-mark or the joule specification on the weapon, as these markings are important for legal assessment.

I hope this article helps you to carry and transport your airsoft weapon safely and in accordance with the law. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us. Stay safe and enjoy your hobby responsibly!
