The R8 cocking system stands for maximum safety. When the cocking slider is pushed forward, the rifle is ready to fire. The system is thus self-explanatory. In combination with Blaser's high-performance scopes, the red dot and cocking can be linked – the red dot only activates when the weapon is cocked – saving battery power, and in exciting hunting situations, the shooter knows at a glance through the scope whether their R8 is ready to fire. No unnecessary movements, no loss of time, these are just two advantages of the straight-pull bolt system when things need to be done quickly. Ergonomics in design and function for the perfect shot.
The straight-pull bolt system allows for lightning-fast reloading and quick shots while maintaining a relaxed body posture. The eyes and weapon remain focused on the target, leading to a significant time gain when reacquiring the target. With the hand cocking, the firing pin spring is intentionally cocked just before firing. No mechanical system can offer the safety of a relaxed firing pin spring. If no shot is fired, a light pressure on the cocking slider is sufficient to relax the firing pin spring. Accidental opening is excluded with a relaxed firing pin spring; a light tap on the cocking slider is enough to unlock the bolt. If the magazine with the trigger unit is not in the weapon, the firing pin spring cannot be cocked. This provides additional safety against unauthorized access.
The direct trigger of the R8 offers the perfect basis for a precise shot, without unnecessary delays. The radial locking mechanism of the R8 locks directly in the barrel, ensuring stability and reliable shooting performance. The barrels and chambers are cold-hammered in most calibers, ensuring that the barrel and chamber are always in perfect concentric alignment.
