The caliber .300 Mag (7.62 x 67 mm) is a powerful cartridge for medium and heavy game. It is preferred by many hunters as a more powerful alternative to the all-round caliber .30-06 Springfield (7.62 x 63 mm) for long-distance shots, as precise shots are theoretically possible up to over 300 m.
A disadvantage of the caliber is the strong recoil and its psychological effect on shooters: Many start to "flinch" in anticipation of the recoil.
Although the cartridge is often used for driven hunts in German-speaking countries, its characteristics are best utilized in mountain hunting or abroad. Reasons: Long, flat trajectory and high impact on target, even with hard-to-hit game.
