Weapon sale: Which acquisition authorization entitles to purchase which weapon, can be found easily online. To be on the safe side, this article lists the different types of weapons - i.e. the purchase authorizations sorted by weapon. This article does not list the weapon trade license - here it is only about the sale private to private.

Attention: A purchase authorization entitles only to the acquisition, not to the guidance of the weapon - for this e.g. firearms license or a small firearms license are necessary.

Free weapon

This includes SRS weapons (alarm, irritant gas and signal weapons) and air guns with a muzzle energy of no more than 7.5 joules. In addition, air rifles manufactured in the Federal Republic of Germany before 02.04.70. or those manufactured in the former GDR before 01.01.90. are exempt from this regulation. However, these are very rare cases.

Marking:

• SRS weapon: "PTB" in a circle.
• Air guns up to 7.5 joules : "F" in a pentagon.

Acquisition authorization: No acquisition authorization is required. However, the purchaser must prove that he is of legal age.

Single-shot long gun with smoothbore and rifled barrels:

This includes

• single-barrel shotguns
• multi-barreled shotguns
• single-barrelled rifles: i.e. not repeaters or semi-automatic rifles, but bsw block or break-barrel rifles
• multi-barreled rifles: i.e. double-barreled rifles, cross-barreled rifles
• Bergstutzen
• triplets

Acquisition permits (various combinations possible):

• Yellow WBK
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Hunting license without WBK for the first weapon
• Hunting license + green WBK without preliminary entry if the buyer already owns weapons.
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Single-shot handguns for cartridge ammunition:

• This includes single-shot pistols, i.e. those without a magazine for cartridge ammunition.

Acquisition permits (various combinations possible):

• Yellow WBK
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Multi-barreled percussion pistols with percussion cap ignition:

• multi-barrel percussion pistols
• revolvers with percussion cap ignition

Acquisition permits (various combinations possible):

• Yellow WBK
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Multi-barreled long rifles with percussion cap ignition:

• multi-barrel percussion rifles
• Revolver rifles with percussion cap primer

Acquisition permits (various combinations possible):

• Yellow WBK
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Bolt action rifles

This includes all bolt action rifles such as straight pull repeaters or classic repeaters.

Acquisition authorizations (various combinations possible):

• Yellow WBK
• Hunting license without WBK with first weapon
• Hunting license + green WBK without prior entry if the buyer already owns weapons.
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Single-shot short gun with percussion cap ignition (percussion pistol):

Illogical but true, although you do not need a pre-entry for multi-shot short firearms with primer ignition it is the case for this design:

Acquisition authorization: exclusively green WBK with pre-entry.

Semi-automatic rifles:

Self-loading rifles for shooting range and hunting

Acquisition authorization (various combinations possible):

• Hunting license without WBK for first weapon
• Hunting license + green WBK without previous entry if the buyer already owns weapons.
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Semi-automatic shotguns:

Self-loading shotguns as they are very popular in sport shooting or for example in crow hunting fall under this category.

Purchase authorization (various combinations possible):

• Hunting license without WBK for the first weapon
• Hunting license + green WBK without prior entry if the buyer already owns weapons.
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Bolt action shotguns

Bolt action shotguns are mainly used for sporting ISPC shooting, in hunting they are almost not used in Germany.

Acquisition authorization (various combinations possible):

• Hunting license without WBK for first weapon
• Hunting license + green WBK without preliminary entry if the buyer already owns weapons.
• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area

Semi-automatic pistols or revolvers

Right to purchase:

• Green WBK with previous entry
• Red WBK with the respective collection area.
