Gun Purchase on Gunfinder

Gunfinder Magazine

What does purchase mean?

Our purchase option is the fastest way to sell a weapon safely and reliably online. This is a good option, especially for inherited weapons or weapon collections, as heirs often lack the expertise.

In principle, this option is interesting for anyone who wants to sell their weapon quickly without having to wait for offers and negotiate with interested parties.

For the purchase option, we work with professional weapon buyers who will provide you with an offer for your weapon within 1-2 business days. If you accept the offer, we will prepare all the forms and assist you with the shipping of the weapon. You will receive a fair price and have the least effort in selling your weapon.

How does the purchase work?

For the purchase, we only need two pictures of the weapon as well as information about the manufacturer and the model. You can upload this information on our purchase page, after which we will send you an offer.

If you accept this offer, we will arrange a time with you when we will have the weapon picked up by a professional weapon logistics provider.

You only need to have the weapon and the registration sheet ready.

How is the price for my weapon determined?

The price we offer you for your weapon will usually differ from the selling price on the private market. This has various reasons: On the one hand, the selling prices at which private sellers offer their weapons are "prices subject to negotiation." The negotiation margin for weapons is usually around 20%, and in some cases even 30%.

Furthermore, private sellers often significantly overestimate the value of their weapon compared to the market price. A rifle with which one has taken their first pieces of game, or one that has been inherited, is associated with many positive emotions. Unfortunately, these do not count for interested parties on the market.

Finally, as a serious and reliable buyer, we incur significant costs. Weapons that we purchase are often stored for months or even years until we find a buyer for them. We have to take these costs into account when making an offer.

What documents do I need?

For the sale of the weapon, you need two documents: on the one hand, the weapon ownership card on which the weapon is registered. On the other hand, the registration sheet - this is an excerpt from the National Weapons Register. The registration sheet was only recently introduced, and it is not a problem if you do not have it yet - you can quickly and easily request it from the weapons authority responsible for you.

Where can I get the registration sheet?

The registration sheet is an excerpt from the National Weapons Register. Write a short email to your weapons authority indicating that you need the registration sheet for the weapon you want to sell. Most authorities will send you the registration sheet by the end of the day.

The weapons authority is subordinate to a different office depending on the district - usually the local police station or the regulatory office. If you are unsure who to contact, you can call them and get assistance. A note is also included in the weapon ownership card. If you cannot find it online, you can also send us a short email or call us - we are happy to help you.

Attention: Please do not black out the document! We need all the information that is on the sheet!

I have a scope mounted on my weapon - can I still sell it?

We will make you a fair offer for every weapon. If a scope is mounted on the weapon, or the mounting device is present, this is not a problem and will be taken into account in our offer.

How should I pack the weapon?

Pack the weapon in a box. The weapon should not be damaged during shipping. Especially if a scope is still mounted on the weapon, it is advisable to cushion the package.

The package does not need to be labeled; shipping labels will be applied by the logistics provider.

Important: Notification to the authority!

After you have sold the weapon, we will send you a transfer certificate. Within 14 days, you must notify the weapons authority responsible for you about the transfer of your weapons. The 14-day period begins on the day your weapon is picked up and thus effectively transferred. The weapons authority will then remove the weapon from your weapon ownership card.

The following documents must be submitted to the authority for the notification:

Please contact your weapons authority immediately to report the transfer of the weapon!

Which weapons authority is responsible for me?

Depending on your place of residence, different authorities are responsible for issuing weapon ownership cards (and the entries). Since the enforcement of the Weapons Act in Germany is a matter for the states, different authorities in the districts or cities can act as the weapons authority. However, these are usually the respective district administrations, regulatory offices, or the responsible police directorates. You can inquire at the citizen services or the local regulatory office about who is responsible for issuing and amending weapon ownership cards.
