With our marketplace function we would like to offer a new possibility for hunters and sport shooters to be able to buy and sell weapons among themselves.
However, due to user carelessness, cases of fraud cannot be completely ruled out.
Recognizing secure offers
However, fake accounts and fake offers can often be easily recognized.
If the writing style of a seller includes bad German or bad English, it cannot be assumed that the seller has a German purchase authorization - so the offer is probably not truthful.
In general, we recommend that you find out as much as possible about the seller. Get the seller's phone number and address and check them. For high-priced products such as weapons, we also advise you to sign a purchase contract and verify the buyer's eligibility to purchase.
If the seller asks to transfer the money to a foreign bank, we strongly advise against the purchase. The first two letters of the IBAN clearly indicate where the bank is located. The IBAN of accounts of German banks always start with DE, Austrian ones with AT.
We recommend that you agree with the seller on cash on delivery - in this case the purchase price is paid to the deliverer upon receipt.
We also generally advise our users never to transfer larger amounts without collateral. Offers with suspiciously low prices should be treated with caution - Gunfinder finds the best offers online - but we do not find bargains that are almost given away every day!
Verified users
To make Gunfinder more secure, we offer sellers the opportunity to have their identity verified. With identity verification, sellers signal to other users that they are trustworthy and help make peer-to-peer trading safer and fairer.
The offers of verified users are also paid more attention to by buyers and clicked on more often. Verification also helps sellers to sell their products better.
Gunfinder News System
We recommend that all buyers and sellers communicate only through the messaging feature and not through email, and do not exchange sensitive data through email.
Communication via email or via Whatsapp significantly reduces security!
When checking the acquisition authorization, users on other platforms often have pictures or scans of the respective WBK or hunting license sent to them- when sending pictures via our messaging system, they are provided with a "watermark". This prevents the recipient from using the images themselves to impersonate someone else.
ID card scan with watermark. The document cannot be further used by fraudsters:
Check with the authorities
If you want to be on the safe side, you should check with the authority that issued the acquisition authorization to see whether the holder is authorized to acquire it. However, the holder of the acquisition authorization who is to be checked must agree to this check. We advise you to always contact the issuing authority.
