What are Lever-Action Rifles?
Lever-action rifles are rifles in which the loading process is carried out by a forward and backward movement of a lever located beneath the stock.
During the forward movement, the bolt is unlocked and pulled back. In this process, the empty cartridge case is extracted from the chamber and ejected. During the backward movement to the starting position, a new cartridge is loaded into the chamber.
Lever-action rifles were especially common in North America (now semi-automatics are the most popular firearms in the USA), while in Europe, bolt-action rifles with a chamber handle are the most common form of hunting multi-shot rifles.
What advantages do Lever-Action Rifles offer?
An advantage of lever-action rifles is that the reloading movement can be performed very quickly without the shooter having to take the weapon off the shoulder. Unlike pump-action rifles, the target game does not need to be taken off the aim.
However, compared to modern bolt-action rifles, the high possible rate of fire of lever-action rifles is no longer significant.
What do Lever-Action Rifles cost?
The costs for a double rifle vary just as much as with other types of firearms. For example, you can purchase the lever-action rifle Puma Classic from Rossi for about 900€ Euro. More specialized lever-action rifles, such as the Pedersoli 1886/71 Guide Master, cost about three times that amount.
